Five arrests after stolen goods seized in Telford police raids
Thursday 26th January 2012, 10:59AM GMT.
Police swooped on 11 properties across Telford, including four businesses, and seized a haul of stolen goods worth tens of thousands of pounds.
The series of raids saw 50 officers, including dog handlers, search houses in Wellington, Arleston, Oakengates, Dawley and Hadley, while business premises in Shifnal, St Georges and Wellington were also targeted.
Five men were arrested on suspicion of theft and conspiracy to commit burglary and steal motor vehicles.
Police said yesterday’s operation was part of a crackdown on burglaries and thefts across the county.
Detective Inspector Pete Brophy, from Malinsgate Police Station in Telford, said: “During the course of the day a significant amount of property was recovered which we believe may be linked to crime and the seized property is now being examined by officers.
“The property recovered includes stolen cars, stolen car parts and computer items, while we also discovered what we believe to be controlled substances at some of the addresses.”
A 38-year-old man has been charged with burglary, handling stolen goods and possession of cannabis, while three other men – aged 23, 25 and 31 were bailed pending further inquiries.
A fifth man arrested was released without charge.
Mr Brophy said: “We are determined to catch those individuals whose criminal behaviour continues to blight the lives of ordinary, law-abiding residents.”
