Man stabbed in eye during brawl in street

A man was left virtually blind in one eye after being stabbed with a kitchen knife during an attack in a street by a mother and daughter in Ludlow, Shrewsbury Crown Court has heard.

Shane Weir suffers blurred vision in his left eye and does not know if he will get his sight back after the assault by Sharon Hughes and Stacey Mills, the court heard.

Hughes, 38, and Mills, 19, deny charges of wounding with intent and unlawful wounding on October 29, 2010.

The court heard yesterday Mr Weir was friends with the two women.

Mr Phillip Beardwell, prosecuting, said: “In the early hours of October 29 2010 a knife was stabbed into Shane Weir’s left eye, blinding him, albeit not permanently. The resulting wound was life-changing.”

The court heard Mr Weir’s girlfriend, Nadia Tehran, received an abusive phone call from Mills, of Ferney Avenue. When the couple returned to her home they discovered it had been “trashed” and went to Sandpits Avenue to confront the defendants, whom they believed responsible.

Mr Beardwell said Mr Weir stood between Hughes, of Sandpits Avenue, and his girlfriend.

“Mr Weir saw Hughes come towards him with the knife. He turned, it nicked his abdomen. He then saw her thrust the knife to the face and he felt his eyeball pop.”

The trial continues.
