Fencing photo on target to promote games

Legend has it that it was the site of the final battle of Powys’ King Cynddylan and home to giant Ogyrfan, father of Guinevere.
But more recently another battle was played out at the site, thankfully not a duel to the death, but a campaign by a local photographer to get people to participate in sport.
The hill fort which overlooks Oswestry was chosen by professional photographer Richard Stonehouse as the dramatic backdrop for his photograph created to help publicise the town’s Community Games due to take place in July.
The image has now been snapped up by a national magazine The Sword to use on its front cover which will be sent to the homes of fencing fans across the UK.
He said: “It was taken in the early evening when it was just getting dark. I thought people fighting on the hill fort was quite appropriate.”
The Community Games are planned to take place from July 6 to 15.
