Steve Carr has been formally identified as one of the two plane crash victims

The families of two men killed in a plane crash in Mid Wales today paid tribute to them.

Bob Jones, 60, owner of Welshpool Airport; and former easyJet pilot Steve Carr, 55, from Ruthin, North Wales, died last Wednesday when the twin-engine plane they were flying in came down on Long Mountain, near Welshpool.

An investigation is under way into why the plane crashed and it is expected to be many months before this will be completed.

The two men were formally identified yesterday afternoon. In a statement Mr Jones’s family said they were ‘shocked and saddened’ by his death.

“Bob was a much loved husband, father and friend,” the statement said.

Mr Carr’s family said: “Our world is immeasurably poorer for the loss.”

Leave your tributes to Bob Jones and Steve Carr in the comments below. Discussion of the incident will not be published.

I was fortunate enough to be flown by Bob to race meetings on two occasions. I sat up front with him in the Navajo.
He made the flight an absolute treat…what a gentleman and with the patience of a saint with me and my questions.
My brother Stuart knew Bob too as Stu was an instructor at Welshpool for several years. Stuart always spoke very highly of Bob and was deeply saddened to hear the bad news.

I too wish to send my commiserations to Bob Jones’s family. And like Tony McLeod, I also knew Steve Carr. He was my brother in law; a lovely guy, loved by everyone, and I simply can’t believe he’s gone. It’s still too much of a shock to comprehend right now. I will forever cherish the time I spent in his company and will miss him very much.

It’s not often in life you meet someone like Steve. He was truly a good man to his core. I had the pleasure of flying with Steve on a number of occasions, it was a pleasure and a privilege to share his company. His good nature, kind hearted selflessness and wonderful spirit will be sincerely missed. This is a real tragedy on so many levels. My heartfelt thoughts go out to all his family and friends. Rest well, mate. May heaven be stocked to the brim with chocolate and no more 5am alarm calls :-)

Like Lisa, I have known Steve for over 15 years, having played together as musicians in bands at many happy events. I am shocked and saddened by this tragic news and our deepest heartfelt sympathies go out to Tara, the girls and his family members and friends for this awful loss. Steve was a lovely man to know, and a real source of inspiration in his positive outlook on life. A true gentleman, a friend, and mentor, Steve was a man admired by many. He was a gifted entertainer and bandleader. We will miss him, and remember the great times we had over the years. May he rest in peace. Although I did not know Bob, my sympathies also go out to his family at this difficult time.

I first met Steve at Easyjet’s headquarters in Luton – we were both there for our initial interview to try and get in to the company as first officers. I met him again up at East Midlands a few days later where we did the simulator assessment together. He struck me even then as such a nice guy and I hardly knew him.

He was always a joy to be around, always smiling, always positive in the crew room. I never heard him complain about anything, ever – unusual for a pilot!

Steve, it was a pleasure to have known you – the world could do with a few more people like you in it.

I can only echo the comments that have been made already. I was one of the lucky guys who flew with Steve and he was the kind of man you warmed to straight away. He was quiet and unassuming and a true gentleman who never complained. I remember talking to him shortly before his retirement and he was so looking forward to it. Kindest regards to his family and the very same to Bob’s.

I saw him at Welshpool only weeks ago not having seen him for years.
He told me he had retired from EasyJet and was going to keep his hand in by instructing again at welshpool.

As Steves sister, and on behalf of my brother Mick, and our families. Would like to say a huge thankyou for all the lovely comments about our wonderful brother Steve. He was a golden person, and in our eyes perfect. We can’t imagine a world without him, but are safe in the knowledge he will continue to inspire and guide, as he always did.

Our job is to continue to support Tara, his beautiful daughters, and his two step sons to the best of our ability. He died doing what he loved with music in his head and his children in his heart. Meet you on the river of time, love you Steve and thankyou for everything. xx

I am very sad not to have managed a chat at the Holden family last year when I saw Steve for the first time in the distance, despite being almost the same age and a second cousin to boot. So many interests in common and now I have heard of the music too. The afternoon filled up too suddenly and now I have missed that echoing opportunity.
How I would have enjoyed playing ‘Can’t Explain’ or ‘Show me’ with him on bass.
My heartfelt regards to Tara and the girls in this awful time….

I was in the same class as Steve at the Priory Boys, we both started there in 1967. I remember he seemed somehow quite mature then, certainly ahead of the rest of us and a great character. Fast-forward and I next caught up with him in the early 80′s drinking in my sisters pub in Oswestry, he still seemed the easy going character I’d known before but if I may say so…a bit directionless. A temporary situation obviously for a guy with his intelligence. Anyway I’m glad I knew Steve Carr. He’ll probably hate this but ‘Possunt Qia Posse Videntur’…and you did mate!

I have been privileged to know Steve and his family for the last 4 years. For most of that time I sat behind him on a drum kit watching his play the bass while we provided the rhythm section for our band. Indeed, I only waved goodbye to him on Tuesday night before the accident having been rehearsing and recording for a few hours. He was a lovely man and we had many adventures together with the band, and indeed as friends. I was always amazed by his ability to apply the tiniest delicate bit of volume to an instrument on a mixing desk and the next day he’d be up to his eyeballs taking the gearbox out one of tractors – and how he could apply his formidable intelligence and touch equally to both. Along with many others, this has truly been one of the saddest weeks of my life. He was and a huge influence on my life, and I will never forget him. My heart goes out to his family as they grieve.
My deepest sympathies also to Bob Jones and his family also during this sad time.
    RIP Steve.

As a friend of his younger brother I have respected Steve for many years. I remember, as a young boy, watching him rehearse with his band; this helped inspire a long-term passion for music in me. Steve always made me feel welcome; he had a very gentle and unassuming manner. I see that other people have already said this, but he was a true gentleman. He will be missed by many people, especially his family. I am so sorry for your loss.

I really could not have wished for a better uncle. Steve was the most caring, the most loving, the most amazing person in the whole world. He simply was one of natures loveliest people, no strings attatched. The whole universe is just a different place without him. He never complained nor said a bad word about anything, and always put the people he loved before himself. He touched the lives of so many people, and would always encourage everyone to follow their dreams. He was a truly inspirational person and will be missed so much.
