Shropshire couple’s amazing picture odyssey
Saturday 21st January 2012, 10:17AM GMT.
When retired couple Geof and Jo Proffitt were given a book of paintings of Shropshire scenes, it set them off on an amazing three-year odyssey around the county.
Mr and Mrs Proffitt, from Shrewsbury, decided to track down the exact locations of the 60 paintings in the artist’s book ‘Maggie Humphry’s Shropshire’ and to take a photograph of the same view.
The book was given to Mrs Proffitt as a 60th birthday present four years ago.
Despite being from the heart of Shropshire, their voyage of discovery took the couple to many places they had never been to – and plenty that they had never even heard of.
Mrs Proffitt said: “All these places – we would not have visited them had it not been for Maggie’s book.”
Now they have put their photographs into an album in the same order as the paintings in the book.
And it also ultimately led them to meeting the painter herself.
Maggie Humphry, who lives and works in Broseley, said: “I am delighted they were inspired to do this.”
