Wellington householder attacked on doorstep
Friday 20th January 2012, 9:00PM GMT.
A 41-year-old man suffered serious injuries when he was dragged from his home onto the street and beaten after answering the door to a mystery caller in Wellington, it was revealed this afternoon.
The victim opened the door to his home on Victoria Avenue to be confronted by a man who pulled him outside.
Police today said the victim fell to the floor and tried to flee but the attacker grabbed hold of him and continued the attack as he lay injured on the pavement.
The attack happened between 5.30pm and 7pm on January 8 but the victim did not go to hospital for two days. Doctors then kept him in hospital for three days due to the severity of the injuries to his stomach, kidneys and arm.
Police have launched an investigation and are studying CCTV to see if any footage was captured of the attacker.
Denise Wakefield, a Telford police spokeswoman said: “This was a particularly nasty and sustained assault, which resulted in the victim having to stay in hospital for a number of days.
“Police are eager to trace witnesses and we would urge anyone who saw or heard anything to call 0300 333 3000.”
