Healthy debate – the BBC Question Time panel faces the audience in Shrewsbury last night

Shrewsbury was at the heart of the national debate yesterday as BBC’s Question Time was broadcast from the town – with host and panellists praising the audience for a ‘very good’ show.

Millions tuned in to see the long-running BBC current affairs show last night. It had been filmed at Theatre Severn earlier in the evening.

Speaking afterwards, host David Dimbleby said he thought the programme had been particularly strong.

“It was very, very good,” he said. “They were a very lively audience.

A lot of jokes were made – by the audience, not by the panel.”

The panel was made up of Baroness Warsi, co-chairman of the Conservative Party, shadow education minister Stephen Twigg MP, Caroline Lucas, the Green Party’s MP, feminist writer Dr Germaine Greer and Charles Moore, columnist and former Daily Telegraph and Spectator editor.

About 20 protesters from the Shropshire Fights Back campaign group gathered outside before the filming began to highlight government cuts to the county’s public services.
