Ironbridge Gorge park and ride idea is passed

Plans for a new park and ride service to ease traffic and encourage visitors to the Ironbridge Gorge have been given the go-ahead.

The service will see 250 parking spaces at Stoney Hill Field, near Jiggers Island, after planning permission was granted at a meeting of Telford & Wrekin Council’s plans board last night.

Shuttle services will run between the Iron Bridge and the museums around the Gorge and Coalbrookdale.

It will incorporate the Gorge Connect service, which operates seasonally, at weekends and for special events.

At the meeting, Councillor Kevin Guy said: “Security was an issue and that has now been addressed, so this is fantastic.”

The meeting heard it was hoped the service would encourage more people to visit, while at the same time promote public transport and cut congestion.
