CCTV films show costly break-in at Shewsbury’s Sabrina river boat
Thursday 19th January 2012, 7:00PM GMT.
Burglars who broke into Shrewsbury’s Sabrina river boat causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage, were filmed on CCTV, its owner said this afternoon.
Three people are believed to have targeted the boat as it was moored near the Welsh Bridge on the River Severn.
Owner businessman Andy Flavell, said the trio smashed a window on the boat and damaged locks to a door before stealing bottles of beer and crisps from inside the vessel.
The incident happened between 6.45pm and 7.30pm on Sunday.
Mr Flavell said: “We have got them on CCTV. They climbed down the railings and tried to force their way in through the glass doors, which were locked. They then smashed a side window to get in and were inside for about 30 minutes.
“It is just the annoyance and the cost of having to fix the window and the locks on the door. We want to help the police catch these mindless hooligans.”
Police say they are trying to find three people and have appealed for witnesses.
Richard Ewels, a spokesman for West Mercia Police, said: “It was early evening and we know at least 20 people passed by.
“We are appealing to them to contact Shrewsbury police on the 101 number.”
