Teenager attacked in Wellington street

A 17-year-old girl was attacked by two men in Wellington who grabbed her round the neck and hit her in the face.

The assault in Tan Bank left the girl with bruising to her face, police said.

Police said the girl was walking between the Dhaka Indian restaurant and Whispers nightclub when she was approached by two unknown men last Sunday between 8pm and 8.45pm..

Without speaking to her, one of the men grabbed her around the neck from behind and then the second man struck her in the face.

However the victim managed to escape from the men and ran home.

A police spokesman said: “She has no idea why the two men targeted her. The victim did not see the man that grabbed her round the neck but she has been able to provide a description of the man that struck her.

“He is described as being white, around 5ft 11ins and as wearing a grey top.”

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to contact police on 0300 333 3000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
