Telford pensioner is attacked by home raiders

Monday 16th January 2012, 2:40PM GMT.

A 78-year-old have-a-go hero was attacked with a plank of wood when he confronted two thugs attempting to burgle his neighbour’s home in Telford.

The pensioner was injured in the attack when he tried to stop the thieves in Ketley.

The man and his 41-year-old son called police when they heard their neighbour’s house alarm going off.

They then confronted two men at the house, off Wren’s Nest Lane.

But the burglars turned on the pensioner and attacked him with a plank of wood.

The men then fled empty-handed into Sinclair Gardens before police arrived.

Denise Wakefield, for Telford police, said: “This was a nasty incident in which an elderly man suffered injuries to his hip. He was so shocked by what happened that he needed to stay in hospital overnight.”

She added: “Both of the suspects were injured as a result of the scuffles that took place and both may have been bleeding.”

The burglars were white men in their late teens, of slim build and around 5ft 8ins tall.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Telford Police on 101.
