Five in hospital after two-car smash on Shropshire road

Five people were taken to hospital following a two-car smash on a Shropshire road.

Firefighters had to cut three of the injured people free from the wreckage. No one was seriously injured.

The crash, involving a Ford Ka and a Vauxhall Zafira, happened at the Maesbury junction close to the Mile End roundabout on the A5/A483 Oswestry bypass just after 3pm yesterday.

West Mercia Police spokesman Richard Ewels said five people were taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for check-ups.

Meanwhile, the drivers of two cars escaped injury in an accident on a road in Market Drayton yesterday.

The crash in Maer Lane closed the road for more than an hour.

The incident happened at about 8am and closed the road until 9.20am.
