Police arrest pair in Shrewsbury drugs raid
Friday 13th January 2012, 7:00PM GMT.
Two people were arrested after police raided a home in Shrewsbury as part of a campaign to tackle illegal drugs in the area, it was revealed today.
Suspected drugs were also seized after police executed a search warrant at an address in Clive Road, Monkmoor, yesterday morning.
Police today vowed that tackling illegal drugs remained a top priority and they appealed for help to combat suspected drug activity in the area.
Officers said a 42-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of drugs offences after police carried out the warrant issued under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
Richard Ewels, a spokesman for West Mercia Police, said: “The man was later charged with possessing cannabis, a Class B controlled drug. He was bailed to appear before Shrewsbury Magistrates Court on January 26.
“The woman was given an official caution for possessing a quantity of the Class A controlled drug diamorphine and possession of cannabis.”
Mr Ewels said the drugs warrant was the latest to be executed by police in the Shrewsbury area.
He urged people to pass on information if they suspected drug activity in their neighbourhood and said tackling illegal drugs was a top priority.
Anybody who has any information about suspected drug activity in Shrewsbury is asked to call the town’s main police station on the 101 non-emergency number.
