A man admitted carrying a samurai sword and knuckle duster in Telford when he appeared before a crown court today.

James Stubbins, of Stone Row, in Malinslee, Telford, is charged with having an offensive weapon and a bladed article in Dark Lane Drive, Malinslee, on October 26 last year.

The 29-year-old appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court today and pleaded guilty to both charges.

No details of the case were read out in court. Mr Earl Pinnock, for Stubbins, requested the case be adjourned for a pre-sentence report.

Judge Robin Onions said he could not rule out giving Stubbins a custodial sentence.

He said: “Weapons of this nature are viewed seriously by the courts.”

Stubbins was bailed to appear back before Shrewsbury Crown Court for sentencing on a date to be fixed.
