Teen beauty spot drinkers are ramblers, not rebels

Letter: England’s not so green and pleasant land
Thursday 5th January 2012, 7:59AM GMT.
England’s green and pleasant land – well, not at this time of year actually.
Each winter our roads seem to get covered in more and more mud, because, first, there is an increasing number of large heavy duty tractors with 10 ton trailers moving chicken manure, and, second the large number of motorists who have no time to give way on narrow roads.
And 4×4 drivers seem to believe it quite acceptable to drive up the verge rather than be courteous.
There also seems to be an increase in the number of HGVs, and considering these are supposed to be controlled by professional drivers, it is then amazing that they have no hesitation about driving at speed, and rubbing their expensive tyres against anything that may be there, but more especially verges which shower oncoming vehicles in mud.
There is a very good case for concreting over all verges, which would save them being churned, with all the resulting mud.
I know all mud is not totally avoidable, but I do object to my driveway being covered on a regular basis, because I have to hose down the underneath of the car.
Mind you, I doubt that concrete verges would make roads wide enough for some people.

Is it not the case the bringing back ditches and dredging them regularly would save a great deal of mud on the roads at this time of year.
Im afraid I live in the country because I love it and plying roadsides with more concrete would be destroying even more countryside. not to mention the fact it will not stop the idiot drivers out there, It will just mean they drive faster. As there wont be verges to slow them down.
I think this is an expense we can ill afford.
Keep the green no more tarmac or concrete than needs be please.

And, your point is??????

Moving to the countryside and moaning about mud is like moving to a city centre and moaning about noise.

My friend actually devised and sold aerosol mud to the guilt ridden countryside avoiding London suburbs a few years ago and did quite well with it. The Human Race is officially mad.

I forgot to add that this spray was aimed at for 4×4 drivers

I have a solution. Move to the city and leave the countryside to those of us who don’t mind mud, tractors and 4x4s. There’s enough concrete in urban areas – we don’t need it spoiling rural Shropshire too.

This has got to be the most ridiculous letter I have read on this site. I imagine the author also dislikes the sound of cockrels in the morning and lambs bleating. Move back to the city.

Ref Chris Brown Some of the roads are very narrow and more often than not it is people who live in the towns that do not understand country roads,4×4 are a must as farmers and there family use them to and fro on their land as some are unmade roads. You are type of person and like many other townies who would move and live in the country side near a farm and complain about the smell of the animals. We have some lvely crountryside and it mainly farmers who keep it like so. Where you live is a very nice area in Wesbury better than big towns.
