Newport firm nets Olympics hotel deal
Wednesday 4th January 2012, 10:59AM GMT.
A Newport manufacturer has secured a £400,000 contract to supply furniture to two premier hotels at the Olympic site in London.
Classic Furniture Group managing director Philip Reynolds said the deal would create jobs as well as helping to secure the jobs of the 160 people already employed by the company.
The firm will provide furniture to hotels IHG Staybridge and Holiday Inn, which are due for completion in March and are both located at the Westfield Stratford shopping centre overlooking the Olympic Stadium.
Mr Reynolds said it was a huge boost for the business, which has factories in Newport and Whitchurch.
He said: “This is the biggest single contract secured in the company’s 40 year history and all the furniture will be manufactured and upholstered in Shropshire.
“This is good news for British manufacturing and a small number of additional new jobs will be created with the work helping secure the jobs of 160 people.”
