Hopes Ellesmere music festival will entertain all ages

Organisers looking to put on a new music festival in Ellesmere say they want the event to appeal to young and old alike as fresh details emerged today.

Music from all genres will be put on at a host of venues across the town if plans come off for the festival in September, put together by members of Ellesmere Chamber of Commerce to replace the Proms in the Park.

They are hoping it will fill the void left by the proms event after organisers had to pull the plug due to a lack of funds.

The idea for a new event, which is in its early stages, could see a festival take place on September 15 with several locations being explored, including by the Mere and the Wharf.

Lincoln McMullan, chairman of Ellesmere Chamber of Commerce, said plans for the event were due to be discussed at the chamber’s next meeting on January 26.

“We want to create an event that will appeal to everybody, whether they are young or old.

“We want different types of music being played at different locations around the town, including The Boathouse, Cremorne Gardens, the town hall, market hall, Comrades Club and by the Wharf.

“September 15 is being looked at as a possible date, but we need to make sure it doesn’t clash with anything else.

“If not it will probably be September 1.”

Kevin Slack, of Greenspace Architects in Ellesmere, added: “We want activities to take place at different locations around the town to promote all the lovely places we have.

“We want to approach a number of indoor and outdoor venues and canvass opinions on who should be performing.

“I am going to produce a flyer to start the process going.”

Ellesmere Proms in the Park was due to take place beside the Mere in Cremorne Gardens on September 17 last year and up to 300 people had already registered for tickets.

Organisers were forced to cancel the event due to a lack of sponsorship to cover the costs of the acts, staging and fireworks.
