CCTV cameras should monitor a junction in Ellesmere amid fears large vehicles mounting kerbs are putting lives at risk, councillors have claimed.

It comes after resident Ray Bennett called on the town council to act after he narrowly avoided being hit by a lorry.

The council is to write to highways bosses at Shropshire Council to ask if cameras can be fitted at the junction of Scotland Street and Oswestry Road.

Mayor Alan Clarke told last night’s town council meeting: “It’s difficult to come up with a solution.

“All I can suggest is we write a strongly worded letter expressing our concerns.”

Mr Bennett said without safety measures it could be a matter of time before an accident occurs.
