Monday 2nd January 2012, 10:59AM GMT.
Police and ambulance crews in Shropshire were kept busy over the New Year as drink-fuelled incidents marred celebrations.
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to 118 incidents in the county during a nine-hour period from Saturday into Sunday as 2012 began.
Pubs, bars and clubs were the main scenes for callouts with crews dealing with 31 calls between 8pm and midnight. Emergencies rose in the early hours of New Year’s Day with 87 calls dealt with in the first five hours of the year.
Ambulance service spoke- sman Chris Kowalik said the busiest time came as the New Year was rung in with 26 incidents tackled between midnight and 1am.
This year’s figures represent a slight fall on last year when crews attended 43 incidents in the run-up to midnight and 106 early on New Year’s Day.
Police said one incident this year saw three men taken to hospital following a fight outside Pussycats nightclub in Wellington.
