A talented photographer from near the Shropshire border is to have his work showcased in an exhibition in New York.

Carl Beebee ships his pictures across the globe selling prints for up to 2,500 US dollars or £1,600.

The 31-year-old, from Tenbury Wells, will showcase his newest work in the Big Apple on January 27 and says even though his pictures are generating worldwide acclaim most of his snaps are taken at home.

He said: “I first became interested in photography when I was 19 years old. It was actually film-making I was interested in so I enrolled as a mature student into Ludlow College to study A Level photography and media studies.

“After the first year at college I got hooked on photography particularly photographing live bands.

“During the second year of college I was commissioned by Metal Hammer Magazine to go on tour with a band and create a documentary portfolio of their tour for a full page spread in the magazine.”

Mr Beebee, who now lives in Leominster with his wife and son, said he was working on a number of local projects which will expose places like The Regal Cinema in Tenbury Wells to a new audience.

He added: “The New York exhibition takes places on January 27 on 5th Avenue in Manhattan.

“The exhibition only lasts one evening which is slightly unusual but it will all be new work.

“It’s a great way to gauge the reaction to the new work before it goes back over in September for full exhibitions.

“There’s something very special about exhibiting in New York. It’s like the Mecca of the art world.

“I still love to photograph bands because it allows you a lot of creativity, but I also love to photograph people and places.

“Although my work travels the world, it is rare I actually go myself because of time and work constraints. I’m also very proud of the fact that all of my work is shot in the UK.

“I’m currently working on a project documenting the refurbishment and restoration of The Regal Cinema in Tenbury Wells.

“Some of these images are being exhibited in a film festival at Worcester Art Gallery and Museum from January 21 to March 24.”
