Tragedy-hit Kington couple host fundraiser

A couple devastated at losing their unborn child just nine days before it was due will tonight host a New Year’s Eve party to help raise awareness of stillbirth and neo-natal deaths.

Linzie Davies and Liam Pugh, from Kington on the Shropshire border, were given the tragic news their daughter Lola May Pugh was dead 38 weeks into the pregnancy.

The couple’s ‘perfect baby’ was stillborn on May 15. They had to give up their daughter and could not face returning home to her untouched toys for weeks.

The New Year’s Eve party will be held at Kington Football Club to help collect funds for the Sands charity, which supports parents dealing with stillbirth and neo-natal deaths. Miss Davies, 25, said on May 11 she woke up and noticed her baby had not moved much during the night. By that evening midwives told her Lola had died.

“I loved being pregnant,” she said. “I was ready to have a baby. I wanted the nightmare to be over – this wasn’t how it was meant to be.

“I sometimes feel like the elephant in the room. I’m the girl who lost her baby. People don’t really know what to say but it shouldn’t be a taboo. I’m hoping my story will help others, even if it’s just one woman.”

The party will feature a live performance by X Factor’s Ellice Childlow. The event will kick off at 7.30pm with tickets costing £12 for adults and £6 for children.
