Shrewsbury murder suspects still held

Murder squad detectives have been granted more time to continue questioning suspects arrested in connection with the stabbing of a 23-year-old man in Shrewsbury.

Scott Cooke, of Sutton Farm, died on Tuesday night after being stabbed in a confrontation involving up to 20 men at Monkmoor recreation ground.

Police have arrested seven men in connection with the death at addresses in Shrewsbury and Telford.

Of the seven arrested, five have been questioned on suspicion of murder. One has been granted police bail while inquiries continue.

The postmortem examination yesterday confirmed Mr Cooke died from stab wounds.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Andrews said: “We are making steady progress with the inquiry. A number of people have come forward in response to our appeals for witnesses.

“I reinforce the importance of anyone not already seen by police who was present during this incident on Tuesday, to contact Shrewsbury police station.”
