Shrewsbury china shop to close

A Shrewsbury china shop is to close in the summer after almost three decades of trading. Hunters China Shop in Wyle Cop is to shut in June as owners David and Glenis Young have decided to retire.
The Youngs, who are aged 67 and 63 years old respectively, said that their lease on the shop will end that month, providing a natural opportunity for them to retire.
Mrs Young said: “We have run the shop for 28 years in town and basically our lease comes to an end in June. Because we are beyond retirement age, we decided to call it a day.”
She said that they were both looking forward to putting their feet up in retirement, but would be sad to say goodbye to the store and its loyal customers.
“We have been here all this time and made a lot of friends. We have known customers who have been coming ever since we have been here,” she said.
The pair used to run two shops in the town, with another in the High Street, before amalgamating them both at the Wyle Cop site about eight years ago.
Mrs Young said it was unlikely that anyone would want to take over the china shop.
