Man fighting for life after Shrewsbury car blaze

A man was fighting for his life in hospital today after suffering serious burns in a car fire in Shrewsbury. He had to be released from the vehicle by emergency services.
He was trapped inside the car and his heart had stopped beating when crews arrived at Battlefield Heritage Park, off Battlefield Link Road at about 3.20pm yesterday.
Police, ambulance crews, including a rapid response vehicle and a paramedic officer, and firefighters all attended the scene.
The blaze broke out in the car park close to the roundabout accessing the heritage park and the man was given emergency treatment at the scene.
His condition at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital was today described as ‘critical’.
Police are still working to establish the circumstances of the blaze.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find a man who had suffered significant burns to his body and was in cardiac arrest.
“CPR was immediately commenced by crews who managed to restart his heart. Burns dressings were applied to his wounds and he was quickly transferred by ambulance to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.”
A spokesman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The incident was a person trapped inside a vehicle and after a joint effort from the emergency services a male was rescued from the vehicle by 3.42pm.
Police appealed for witnesses to call 101.
