County band’s rail station gig
Tuesday 27th December 2011, 11:00AM GMT.
Rail commuters got a festive treat to celebrate their operator’s punctuality – a platform concert by a Shropshire band.
County outfit Juke Box Mama staged the gig on the platform of Fenchurch Street Station in London, best known for its place on the Monopoly board.
The event was music to the ears of passengers and railway staff, who enjoyed the surprise gig on the platform.
The band was booked to play 70s hits by National Express train operator c2c.
It recently topped the annual punctuality chart for UK rail operators.
Official rail industry figures revealed that the East London and Essex train operator ran 96.3 per cent of its trains on time, making c2c the best performing franchised train operator in Britain over the past 12 months.
Julian Drury, c2c’s managing director, said: “I can’t think of a better way for the c2c team to celebrate the festive season than with a Christmas number one for punctuality.”
Based in Shropshire the band includes Abi Baur on saxophone, Al Johnson lead singer and guitar, Nick Baur, bass and vocals and Sam Baker on drums.
Juke Box Mama’s repertoire includes songs from The Killers, Lady Ga Ga, Kings Of Leon, Queen, The Rolling Stones, Black Eyed Peas and more.
