Warning for Telford care home bosses over failures
Saturday 24th December 2011, 10:59AM GMT.
A residential care home in Telford has been issued with a formal warning by inspectors after failing to protect the safety and welfare of elderly residents, after two inspection visits.
Inspectors from health watchdog the Care Quality Commission (CQC) visited Birkdale Residential Home in Oakengates in October to follow up concerns highlighted during a visit in May.
It found some residents hadn’t been given their medicines, care plans were not accurate or updated and there was a lack of training on dealing with challenging behaviour.
Andrea Gordon, deputy director of operations for the CQC in the Central region, said: “This sends a clear message that the owner of Birkdale Residential Home needs to address this issue or face further consequences.
“Inspectors will return and if we find that the required progress is not made we won’t hesitate to use our legal powers to protect the people who use this service.”
A warning has been issued to owners Dudley-based firm The Keepings. If improvements are not made, the CQC can restrict the services a provider offers or suspend or cancel a service.
