Thieves take charity hamper from Bridgnorth pub
Thursday 22nd December 2011, 10:59AM GMT.
Thieves stole a Christmas hamper from a Bridgnorth pub – just days before it was due to be raffled off for charity.
Staff at The Shakespeare noticed the Bridgnorth Lions hamper had been taken when closing up on Friday night. The hamper is donated every year by the charity and money raised through the raffle goes towards helping local people in need over Christmas.
The pub has since replaced the hamper out of its own funds, at a cost of about £50.
Assistant manager Nick Bevan said he was shocked somebody had taken the hamper as there had never been any problems of the kind before.
He said: “They must have come in and swiped it while we were really busy because we didn’t notice at first.
“If anyone has any information about it we would ask them to contact us.
“There must’ve been about £50 worth of stuff in there.
“We run it every year with the Lions and we’ve never had any problems, so it’s quite a shock someone has pinched it.
“We’ve replaced it out of our own pockets so the raffle will still go ahead.”
He urged anybody who can help trace the hamper to contact him.
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to The Shakespeare on (01746) 762403.
Meanwhile, police are still appealing for information after eight wreaths were stolen from a pub near Bridgnorth.
They were taken from the Down Inn between 9am and 3pm on December 13.
Police spokesman Richard Ewels said they were worth about £40. Anyone with information should contact Bridgnorth station by using the new non-emergency number, 101.
