Thursday 22nd December 2011, 10:59AM GMT.

Revellers as young as 13 trashed a £150,000 house in Telford after turning up to a party believed to have been organised on the internet, it was claimed today.

Double-glazed windows were smashed, kitchen units damaged and curtains pulled down while the youngsters were partying in the empty bungalow in New Works, causing damage, which will cost up to £10,000 to repair.

Police today said 17 youths, both male and female, were arrested at the scene on Tuesday night after a neighbour contacted officers.

Owner Vernon Plim said he only completed the purchase of the New Works Lane home, which had been empty for three years, a day earlier.

He said the first he knew of the intruders was when he discovered police at the property shortly before 10pm after a neighbour called to say he had heard breaking glass.

Mr Plim, a former county fire officer, said ‘significant damage’ had been caused to the two-bedroom property which was covered in broken glass, bottles, cans and debris.

He added: “Police were making multiple arrests. When I went into the rear bedroom there were several teenage girls left there quite distraught.

“Probably four large ground floor windows were smashed. One of them had a garden spade thrown through it from outside.

“A vacuum cleaner had been used to smash the side room window. Kitchen units were damaged. There is significant damage. I think it was arranged over social networking sites.”

The 57-year-old, who praised the police response, said he was not sure how the teenagers had got into the bungalow but believed it may have been by breaking glass in the front door.

Denise Wakefield, Telford police spokeswoman, said: “A total of 17 youths, male and female, aged between 13 and 15, were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. They have been bailed pending further inquiries.”

Mr Plim added he had bought the bungalow, which is next door to his own property, to either let or move his elderly father in to.

He said: “I am a local landlord and have got several properties. It is difficult to shock me because it goes with the territory. I am disappointed about what has happened.”
