Three MPs from Shropshire and Mid Wales have opted for the same festive design on their Christmas cards this year.

Conservative MPs Glyn Davies and Mark Pritchard, for Montgomeryshire and the Wrekin respectively, and Telford’s Labour MP David Wright have all chosen the same snowy Westminster scene.

The card, depicting a snow-decked Big Ben, has proved popular this year with Mr Wright claiming he had sent out 500 of them.

Meanwhile, Shrewsbury MP Daniel Kawczynski chose a festive robin for his Christmas card.

In his Christmas message he asked people to remember those who would be spending Christmas alone.

He said: “It can be a very lonely time for those without family or close friends to invite them for a meal. We should all think about our neighbours where we live and see if there is anything we can do during the festive period to bring extra comfort to those who are alone.”

North Shropshire MP Owen Paterson, who is also Secretary of State for Northern Ireland has chosen a traditional Christian-themed card which depicts a winged angel playing a golden instrument.

He said: “I would like to wish all Shropshire Star readers a very happy Christmas and the very best for 2012. Although we are in uncertain economic times, let’s hope that next year conditions improve; meanwhile, we have both the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics to look forward to.”

In his Christmas message MP David Wright said: “I hope that people will find a few moments in the coming days to reflect on the real meaning of Christmas at a time when commercialism tends to dominate.”

Glyn Davies said 2011 had been a challenging year for the people of Montgomeryshire.

He said: “The biggest issue we have to face in Mid Wales is the threat from industrialisation of our landscapes from hundreds of wind turbines, pylons and cables.”

Meanwhile Mr Pritchard thanked all the unsung heroes and heroines in the public and private sector in Telford and Wrekin for their hard work this year.

Ludlow MP Philip Dunne has sent out a card with his parliamentary colleagues on the front, including Prime Minister David Cameron. He said: “I wish all my constituents a Happy Christmas. I hope those able to spend time with their families do so in harmony.”
