CCTV footage could help track down raiders who stole cash and alcohol during a break-in at The Venue leisure complex near Oswestry, it has been claimed.

A gang of up to five people stole a ‘substantial’ amount of cash and alcohol from the building in Burma Road, Park Hall, which is the home of the Welsh Premier League soccer side The New Saints.

But bosses at the centre are hoping those responsible will have been captured on security system cameras.

Police today appealed for witnesses or anyone who knows about the break-in to contact them. The raid was carried out in the early hours of Friday.

Ian Williams, chief operations officer at The Venue, said he was shocked.

He said: “We are working closely with West Mercia Police in its investigation.

“With the advanced security systems we have, we are confident the perpetrators will be caught and brought to justice.”

He confirmed a large quantity of alcohol was among the raiders’ haul.

Richard Ewels, spokesman for West Mercia Police, said: “A door was forced and rooms were searched. Property and cash were stolen.”

Mr Ewels said: “Police are now appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious to call Oswestry police on the 101 number.”
