A 20-year-old man needed hospital treatment after a glass was smashed in his face in an unprovoked attack at a pub in Shrewsbury, police said this afternoon.

The man was targeted by an unknown male at the Shrewsbury Hotel in Mardol on Saturday night.

Police said the victim was approached by a man who hit him in the face with the glass before fleeing the pub at about 11.30pm.

The victim was taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where he was treated for cuts to his face.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the attack to come forward.

Inspector James Dunn, of Shrewsbury police, said: “This was an unprovoked attack by an unknown male which resulted in the victim being taken to hospital.

“Contact Shrewsbury police station on the non-emergency 101 number if you can help.”
