Attack on Market Drayton Mencap Club ruins Christmas
Tuesday 20th December 2011, 10:59AM GMT.
Thieves have ruined Christmas at a Shropshire club for people with learning disabilities after stealing items and causing damage totalling £750.
A laptop computer worth £400 and a stereo worth £250 were stolen from the headquarters of Market Drayton Mencap Club between 5pm on Saturday and 12.30pm on Sunday.
About £100 in damage was also caused during the break-in, which happened after 40 members and their carers held a Christmas party at the town’s Methodist Church.
The laptop contained pictures taken by members for a slide show.
Philip Hickman, one of the club’s founder members, said: “I think it’s atrocious. The club is very important to everybody and I hope the police will catch those responsible.”
Contact Market Drayton Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
