All superstar Mariah Carey wants for Christmas is . . . a story in the Shropshire Star, or so it seems.

The global singing legend sparked a rush to our website after posting a link to one of our stories on her Facebook page.

The 41-year-old, famous for Christmas hit All I Want For Christmas, posted a link to our www.shropshirestar.com story about the greatest-ever festive songs on her Facebook page.

Thousands of her fans from all over the world followed the link to read our story about how Carey’s Christmas cracker is the nation’s favourite festive karaoke tune.

A poll of singers at Lucky Voice karaoke bars saw 9,543 pick the track as their favourite singalong.

The song, which was first released in 1994, has spent more than 50 weeks in the UK Top 40 and sold millions of copies worldwide.

And that’s before Mariah, who has sold more than 200 million records in the last 20 years, brought out new versions with Justin Bieber and Michael Buble..

Todd Nash, the Shropshire Star’s internet editor, said: “We had a big rise in visitors to the site on Friday and we couldn’t believe it when we saw that many of the new users were coming from the Mariah Carey facebook page.

“It was great that she posted a link to our website – she is obviously an avid reader.

“Although I’m a fan of Mariah and the song it won’t be my first choice when the karaoke machine comes out this Christmas – I prefer Slade’s Merry Xmas Everyone!”
