A man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run accident which left a Shropshire man dead, police revealed this afternoon.

Officers said the arrest in connection with the death of 36-year-old Dale McNamee, was made on Saturday.

But police stressed the investigation into the father-of-three’s death was continuing and renewed their appeal for help to trace the driver of the vehicle which struck Mr McNamee, of Harmer Hill, near Shrewsbury, in the early hours of November 26.

He had been walking along the A458 between Shrewsbury and Bridgnorth at around 4.20am.

It is thought he may have been lying in the road, either fully in the carriageway or partly on the verge, when hit by a passing vehicle travelling towards Bridgnorth at Venus Bank, near Cound.

Mr McNamee, who worked as a security guard at ABP in Shrewsbury, was left dead at the scene.

Police said the vehicle – thought to be a white box-type van – failed to stop.

Saturday’s arrest came 24-hours after Mr McNamee’s father Clive made a plea for information and for the driver to contact police, during a press conference in Shrewsbury.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Jamieson said today: “I can confirm a man has been released on police bail.

“This investigation is still very much ongoing.”
