Letter: Petty bureaucrats want to make Britain pay
Saturday 17th December 2011, 8:00AM GMT.
So it seems the petty bureaucrats in Brussels are determined to make Britain pay for David Cameron’s policy of sticking up for his country.
If that is their attitude then Britain should withhold the millions of pounds we give them to squander until they can make the books balance.
As one of the EU’s biggest contributors, it would not be long before they run out of money and start to realise they are supposed to work for the good of the Union and not their own little gravy train.
How long will it be before the people of Italy and Greece realise they are being governed by unelected men in suits forced on them by France and Germany?
In 1973, we voted for a common market not a United States of Europe.

Well said John
Those with a voice in the EU these days seem to consist of playground bullies with a more than a hint of do as I say not as I do.
Some days beyond David Cameron’s stand for Britain, as the dust settles, it seems that he might not be alone in his postition. Some other countries have not allowed themselves to be caught up in the flurry and rush surrounding the need to settle the eurozone problems and are taking a more considered approach. Very sensible.
Many people understand the urgency for action in the eurozone but I’m am not convinced that those running the eurozone show have grasped the nettle even now. Punctuating this business with tantrums and name calling when things don’t go their way is really so playground.
Well done Nick Clegg for putting the french straight personally and not via the press.
The British Government is showing leadership in very difficult times and I applaud them for it.

What is this Eusceptisim Light week! For starters D Cameron did not stand up for Britain he did not veto any treaty because there was no treaty, he did not stop anything as they are going ahead with their plans by another route.
We are paying into the IMF because we (that is our wonderfully reborn EUsceptic Government) agreed to do so.
The Euro was always intended to further political integration and it is achieving its aim, that is what all this Eurozone frenzy is about.
Time to get real folks the only way to protect Britain is to leave the EU, anything short of that is nothing more than smoke and mirrors because to date the project is on course to a United States of Europe. Only other hope is the Euro collapses and this causes the the EU to implode eventually, but as this will not be managed it will create many problems.

Agreed Ken.The sooner it implodes the better.

I’m no fan of the man, but even I think that there must be a propaganda reason why the Shropshire Star keeps using that picture of David Cameron going into hospital before his haemorrhoid surgery.

It’s time that all politicians of all parties started to wake up to the fact that the EU is doing us far more harm than good – and the prognosis is looking terminal for the euro. Labour and the Lib Dems feel ideologically opposed to UKIP, but the EU has never been more right wing and with “free competition” undermining public sector and youth employment – they (especially) need to wake up and smell the coffee.
