Thieves made off with seven huge bags of donated clothing which would have been used to raise much-needed cash for a pre-school group in Telford.

Randlay Roundabouts Pre-school, based in Randlay Community Centre, gathered eight bags of clothing over three months ready for collection by Rag Bags.

But staff arrived at work on Wednesday to find that five of the eight bags had gone.

Pre-school manager Julia Saunders said they had filled the 5ft tall bags with the donated clothing which would have raised around £60 for the group.

Miss Saunders said: “During the session two more bags were stolen. I am fuming, absolutely fuming and the staff are very upset. They lifted them over the fence, so we only have one left now.

“The bags are about 5ft tall and are very heavy and they are white, so they are not easy to hide. We have a clothing bank on the grounds of the pre-school that the parents fill and we have specific bags that we stuff full.

“The courier for Rag Bags rang to say they could not come but we could not store them in our shed so we left them by the shed in our grounds which are secure, with a 6ft fence and a gate that is padlocked.

“We are moving into new premises in January and wanted to use the money to buy new equipment.

“Now we are back to square one and will have to start collecting the clothes again.”

Anyone with information about the incident can call the new non-emergency police number 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
