A pensioner had her handbag snatched as she walked home from a shopping trip in Telford, police said today.
The woman, who is in her 80s, was walking along New Road, in Wrockwardine Wood, when a man approached her and pulled the bag off her arm before running off.
Police searched the area using dogs, and the handbag was found in a nearby bush. Nothing had been stolen.
Officers said the woman was not injured but was left ‘extremely upset’ by the incident, which took place at about 12.45pm yesterday.
A Telford police spokeswoman said: “The woman tried to keep hold of her handbag but the thief was too strong and managed to pull her bag away.
She shouted she was going to call police and it is believed the offender may have dropped the bag at this point.”
The suspect is described as white and his mid to late teens. He is around 5ft 10ins tall, slim and has medium length light-brown hair. He was wearing a grey Lonsdale hooded top with dark coloured tracksuit bottoms.
