Oswestry Council welcomes faster internet
Tuesday 13th December 2011, 10:59AM GMT.
Thousands of Oswestry residents will receive huge benefits from superfast broadband when it is introduced in the town next year, councillors have said.
Businesses will have the most to gain when BT launches its faster broadband coverage early next year, the councillors said at a meeting of Oswestry Town Council finance and general purposes.
The meeting was told that the introduction of super broadband in Oswestry had already begun.
Cabinets housing the new fibres are being built next to existing cabinets. Councillors were told that although 24 cabinets were being enabled 19 would not be in the first phase.
This meant that 9,000 of the 12,000 houses and businesses in Oswestry would be able to receive superfast broadband.
Councillor Chris Schofield said: “This is really welcome for the town of Oswestry and excellent news for any business.”
