Hundreds of people raised their voices to the heavens when they joined a Shropshire town’s carol service.
All Saints Church, in Wellington, attracted a large congregation yesterday for the town’s Civic Carol Service. Town mayor Councillor Lesley Street spoke during the service and was thrilled with the event.
She said: “It was a wonderful evening. The church was full and I was just overwhelmed. It was such fun and there was such a feeling of warmth and a feeling of community all around you.”
Councillor Street gave a reading during the service as did town clerk Howard Perkins, police inspector Morwena Lansdale and Rebecca Powell, who represented the young people of Wellington. The service was led by the Rev Richard Kirby and Wellington Town Band were also there.
Children from Wrekin View Primary School sang Come They Told Me and He Came in Love, while youngsters who attend St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School sang Midnight and a Christmas Calypso.
Councillor Street added: “The children blew my heart away. I do not know how they do it at that age. There was so much control of the performances.”
