A burglar from Telford who parked his car on the driveways of homes while he raided them was today starting a five-year jail sentence.

Sanjay Patel broke into one house and, after being disturbed by the homeowner, threw a laptop at him, injuring his face, a court heard.

The 32-year-old, of King Charles Barnes, Church Street, Madeley, admitted two charges of burglary and asked for two others to be taken into consideration when he appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday.

He targeted homes in Swindon, in South Staffordshire, and Stourbridge.

Miss Jennifer Josephs, prosecuting, said: “Patel targeted a property along Hagley Road, Stourbridge.

“The homeowner returned at 11am and saw the defendant’s car in the driveway. He was concerned and went inside the house.

“As he got inside he saw the defendant coming down the stairs with a bag. Patel threw a laptop in his face and then escaped through a bedroom window and drove away.”

Miss Josephs said less than an hour later Patel drove to a house in Feiashill Road, Swindon and carried out a similar theft.

The other two burglaries were said to have been in Chapel Lane and Worcester Lane, both in Stourbridge, in August this year.

Sentencing him to five years in jail, Judge Michael Challinor told Patel: “You have an unenviable record. These are deliberate attacks on houses.”
