An award-winning Shropshire chocolatier hopes to sample the sweet taste of success after designing a new bar that pays homage to her home county.
Melanie Fallon, from Shrewsbury-based Bonbonniere, has designed the Shropshire Bar, which is on sale in the run-in to Christmas.
And so far her venture has proved a success – with bars selling like hot cakes.
Mrs Fallon, whose company has won numerous awards and is rated as being the best gourmet chocolate company in the West Midlands, is stocking local delis, farm shops and other independent retailers.
She said: “I launched the bars a week or two ago at the BBC Good Food Show, at Birmingham’s NEC, and the response was incredible.
“People have been buying thousands of them – I’m having to start work at 4am every day to keep up with demand. We’re working flat out – but we’ll be able to rest when it gets to Christmas.”
Mrs Fallon has also launched a new gourmet chocolate range called Girl’s Night In, which is also proving a hit.
She said: “Girls love chocolate and the Girl’s Night In range features champagne chocolate bars and other flavours. They’re selling very quickly – the only trouble is I’m getting complaints from boys saying I’m not doing anything for them. I might have to introduce a new range for the men.”
Mrs Fallon started her business after discussing ideas for food companies with other mothers at the gate of a local primary school. It has been a runaway success and she won the Heart of England Fine Foods Diamond Award for food excellence.
