Hopes on Telford rail freight operator
Friday 9th December 2011, 12:10PM GMT.
Telford’s regeneration chief today said he was ‘more than confident’ a new operator would be found for the town’s multi-million pound International Railfreight Park.
Charles Smith said the £7.75 million park in Donnington still had a bright future, despite bosses at JG Russell pulling out of the running of the site because the firm was losing too much money on it.
Telford & Wrekin Council is paying the contractors more than £2,000 a week to continue running the terminal until a replacement can be found.
The cabinet approved starting a tender process for a new operator last night.
Councillor Smith said it could take three or four months but added four or five companies had already expressed an interest.
