£1,000 reward to catch Shrewsbury concrete block bridge yobs
Friday 9th December 2011, 5:00PM GMT.
A £1,000 reward was posted today to catch the thugs who hurled concrete blocks on to a road from a bridge in Shrewsbury.
Crimestoppers is offering the cash to anyone who calls its number with information about the incident in Monkmoor Road at about 2am on Sunday.
Police said the missiles could have seriously injured or killed the occupants of vehicles on Robertson Way some 30 feet below.
Officers have not ruled out the possibility of a ‘copy-cat’ incident, after two vehicles were targeted in Essex on December 1.
Crimestoppers says it regards it so seriously that it will pay up to £1,000 to the anonymous caller whose information leads to the arrest of the culprits.
Pauline Hadley, regional manager of Crimestoppers, said: “Judging by the size of the pieces of concrete thrown, there is absolutely no doubt as to the level of risk to the occupants of vehicles travelling below.
“It is very fortunate that it was in the early hours.”
Information to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
