Shrewsbury teenage carer will carry Olympic torch
Thursday 8th December 2011, 12:29PM GMT.
A teenager from Shrewsbury who cares for her mother has been selected as an Olympic torch bearer, it was confirmed this afternoon.
Sarah Thomas, who is 17, cares for both of her parents but primarily looks after her mother, who has multiple sclerosis.
She has been chosen as one of 6,800 people offered the chance to carry the Olympic torch on its journey across the UK ahead of the London Games next year.
The Olympic torchbearer team will be made up of ‘inspirational’ members of local communities nominated by friends, family and work colleagues.
Ian Fannon, a spokesman for the MS Society, said: “We are delighted to hear Sarah has been chosen as a torchbearer for the Olympic flame.”
