Flooding fears as gales hit Shropshire
Thursday 8th December 2011, 10:59AM GMT.
Strong winds are expected to sweep across parts of Shropshire and Mid Wales over the next few days with potential for heavy rain and flooding.
The Met Office has issued a warning of severe gales for much of the UK and a red ‘act now’ weather warning for central and southern Scotland today.
It warned this could cause significant disruption to travel and said there was potential for 80mph to 90mph gusts of wind.
It gives a 60 per cent probability of severe cold weather and icy conditions between 6pm tonight and midnight on Saturday in parts of England.
Environment Agency Wales has advised people to be alert for possible loc-alised surface water flooding across Wales today.
The Met Office is forecasting heavy rainfall and strong winds across the whole of the country from this morning and continuing into this afternoon.
The main areas of concern are parts of Mid and North Wales, where the heaviest of the rain is forecast.
