Telford trader in threat to sell up over raids
Tuesday 6th December 2011, 10:59AM GMT.
Raiders have targeted three units at an industrial estate in Telford leaving one fed-up trader threatening to sell-up.
Thieves forced their way into the buildings at Hadley Park Industrial Estate, in Hadley Park Road. Simon Coleman, owner of GGS Automotive, said that there been had an attempted break-in at the premises last week before thieves managed to get into his unit on Friday night.
Mr Coleman, who has run the firm for two years with his son Michael, said he was so fed up that he now ‘feels like packing it in’.
He said: “It gets you down in the end. If I could sell the business I would and walk away because of things like this.”
His industrial unit is made out of corrugated sheeting and burglars cut a hole in the wall to get in.
Mr Coleman said the damage wasn’t too expensive to repair but it was an inconvenience. He also faces paying an excess on his insurance and security is being stepped up.
“There’s has been a spate of trouble on the estate in the last week. We have had a few items stolen this time but nothing major. They caused a mess and did search the building,” he said.
Police said two other companies linked to the automotive industry were also targeted with offenders searching each premises.
A Toshiba laptop in an orange case was stolen from one building but nothing is believed to have been stolen from the other units. A total of about £300 damage was caused, said police.
Officers are investigating and have appealed for information.
A Telford Police spokeswoman said: “Police have carried out a number of inquiries, including seizing forensic opportunities for further investigations.
“We would appeal to anyone with information about the incidents to come forward.
“We especially want to hear from anyone who is aware of an individual who has suddenly got in their possession a Toshiba laptop in an orange case.”
Anyone with information should contact Telford Police on the new non-emergency number 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.
