Youngster’s football matches at risk after goal post theft
Monday 5th December 2011, 9:00PM GMT.
Young footballers from Telford face being out of action for weeks after thieves stole their goal posts.
They were taken from a pitch at the Phoenix sports centre, in Dawley, some time between 1pm on Saturday and 8am yesterday.
Madeley United under-10s only played yesterday because they managed to borrow a set of goalposts from another club.
Club secretary Joanne Bowen said: “The under-10 team nearly had to cancel this weekend’s fixture.
“The goals were last used on Saturday by the under-11 girls team.”
He added: “The club managed to borrow a set from another local club so that the game could go ahead, but without the goals being returned we fear we may have to cancel fixtures for the next three weeks so we can fundraise to buy another set, which would be £300.”
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact Joanne on 07979 494610 or police on 101.
