New appeal launched on hit and run death
Monday 5th December 2011, 2:30PM GMT.
A fresh appeal for witnesses was today launched as the hunt continues for the driver of a white van believed to have been involved in a fatal hit and run collision in Shropshire.
Dale McNamee, of Harmer Hill, near Shrewsbury, died in the early hours of Saturday November 26.
Police said he was struck by a vehicle in Venus Bank which is on the A458 between Cound and Cross Houses. He had suffered head injuries and died at the scene, police said.
Detectives said they are focusing their inquiry on a white box van that was travelling towards the scene shortly before Mr McNamee was found.
The driver of the white van has still not come forward more than a week after the accident, police said today.
They have today renewed their appeal for the driver to come forward and for witnesses to the accident to also contact them with information.
Detective Inspector Sarah Wagstaff, for West Mercia Police, today said: “Someone somewhere must be aware of the identity of the driver of the vehicle.
“Again I would renew our appeal for the driver to contact he police as a matter of urgency.”
Appeals have been made for the driver of the white van to contact the police so he could be eliminated from their ongoing inquiry.
Police believe the van may have been travelling to Bridgnorth, Kidderminster or the Wolverhampton area but could have turned off along one of the many country roads before reaching Bridgnorth.
The vehicle looked like a delivery van and had some writing on the side, polixce have said.
Police are appealing for witnesses and said they wanted to hear from anyone in the area who may have been expecting a delivery that morning, particularly if it did not turn up.
Mr McNamee was a security guard for ABP in Shrewsbury.
He is the son of Montgomery Town FC manager Clive McNamee.
Police are also appealing for further information from members of the public, especially motorists who may have seen Mr McNamee walking along the main road between Cross Houses and Cound from about 3.30am on Saturday.
Anyone with information on the incident should call police on 101 or call the anonymous Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
