David Dickinson dazzles crowd at Newport auction’s filming
Tuesday 29th November 2011, 2:01PM GMT.
Antique lovers flocked to a ‘bobby dazzler’ of an auction today when David Dickinson brought his Real Deal show to Shropshire.
The daytime TV personality and antique expert kept the crowds entertained when he visited Brettell’s Auctioneers and Valuers in Newport. Lots were bought throughout the day with thousands of pounds in cash handed over. And Mr Dickinson said he was ‘delighted’ to be back in the county.
He used to visit the area when he worked as an antiques dealer.
He said: “I’m delighted to be here. The Duke has returned. I live in Cheshire now so I often travel through Shropshire and I have to say it is a beautiful part of the world.
“When I was a working dealer I would often attend auctions in both Ludlow and Shrewsbury and I always enjoyed my time there.”
Mr Dickinson added that lots of interesting items had been put up for sale in Newport today.
“We always have a lot of fun making this show and today will be no different,” he said.
“It has already been a very exciting one – we’ve got some fascinating lots. It’s great to be in Newport and I’ve got my fingers crossed for all our contestants.”
He added: “We have had a lot of exciting items put up for sale in Newport today.
“Some particular favourites of mine include a Bernard Lansky shirt that he designed specifically for Elvis Presley.
“We also have some very interesting iron handcuffs and a beautiful 17th century Chinese moon vase.”
Auctioneer David Brettell said: This is the fifth or sixth time we have had David Dickinson here and it’s always a great occasion.
“He brings a lot of interest to the auction room and I’ve noticed that one or two of our regulars have dressed slightly better today – I’ve even dressed slightly better.
“The first part of the show took place in Wrexham. The contestants were made offers for their items by a dealer – those that turned them down and now trying to sell them today. There is an eclectic mix of lots so it should be interesting.”

I have seen the dicko at brettells before and very good at what he does .
Was not to keen on brettells though considering we are all there to spend on the odd occasion i found the auctineer rather rude , i remember one day something had gone missing from a box and he just went you people what are you like, i understand the frustration at having somthing stolen but to gaze around the sale room and say that i though was not on, so no more custom from me.

I didn’t realise The Duke was in town. I thought the orange glow on the horizon was from the street lights.
