Shropshire Gentlemen’s Club raises £19,000 for hospice
Thursday 24th November 2011, 6:59PM GMT.
The exclusive Shropshire Gentlemen’s Club held its annual charity ball on Saturday, raising more than £19,000 for Hope House.
The club had already raised more than £100,000 for the children’s hospice with its annual fundraiser over the past few years.
An auction of 15 high quality donated items, from holidays to days at the races, proved a real money spinner, with guests bidding high to raise funds.
The total was also boosted by a raffle, generous sponsorship of tables, and tickets sales for the £60 a head event at Goldstone Hall Hotel, near Market Drayton.
Among the guests were North Shropshire MP Owen Paterson and his wife Rose.
Parents Rob and Alison Jones, from Muxton, Telford, spoke movingly about the loss of their six year-old son Ryan and the support they had received from Hope House during his life and afterwards.
They were given a standing ovation.
Shropshire Gentlemen’s Club chairman Rob Hughes said: “We raised £17,000 last year and I’m absolutely delighted we’ve been able to top that thanks to the wonderful generosity of our members and guests.
“I’d like to thank everyone who contributed to this success.”
Fundraising manager at Hope House, Vanessa Thomas, added: “The ball was another amazing evening thanks to Shropshire Gentlemen’s Club.
“We are delighted and absolutely stunned that the club has raised £19,000 in the current economic climate.”
She said the club’s continued strong support was highly valued at a time when donations to Hope House had fallen 35 per cent because of the recession.
The club is made up of local businessmen and is limited to 15 members.
